Week 2 update

Slow week on the development front here. The awful heat wave has done little to encourage us to sit at our stuffy computer desks, and even less to encourage creativity.

That said, we made some progress on our current project. The data driven approach we're taking has allowed us to cobble together a pretty neat xml parser, which in turn allows us to completely define any and all in game objects in xml. This makes the game itself (once the system is working) almost infinitely extensible.

Tomorrow is coding binge day, so hopefully we'll have something neat to show after that.

Getting started

Starting a blog here.

Our goal is to start creating interesting, and hopefully fun video games. I plan to use this blog to chronicle some combination of the experience, development, brainstorming, and failures associated with these endeavors.

To start off I'm announcing that clan Dingus will be participating in the dream-in-code Java Gaming Challenge. No pressure, no prize, just a deadline and a chance to show something off. This is a pretty ambitious leap for us, but I think in the coming month we can really get something neat off the ground.

We've got something started, so I'll hold off on details until we have something to show.
